The History of Yewaland

The Egbado, now Yewa, are a clan of the Yoruba people, and inhabit the eastern area of Ogun West Senatorial District, Ogun State, in south-west Nigeria, Africa. In 1995 they changed their name to the Yewa. Yewa clan is now comprises 4 local Governments Yewa-South, Yewa-North, Imeko-Afon and Ipokiawhile the Ado-Odo/Ota LGA forms the 5th Awori part of the senatorial district

The Egbado appear to have migrated - possibly from the Ketu, Ile-Ife, or Oyo - to their current area early in the 18th century. Egbado towns, most importantly Ilaro, Ayetoro, Imeko, Ipokia and Igbogila, were established in the 18th century to take advantage of the slave trade routes from the inland Oyo empire to the coast at Porto-Novo. Other towns were Ilobi and Ijanna, which were strategic in protecting the flanks of the slaving routes.

History of Ipokia

Ipokia is a Local Government Area in the west of Ogun State, Nigeria bordering the Republic of Benin. Its headquarters is Ipokia town. There are other towns like Idiroko, Ihunbo, Agosasa, Aseko, Maun, Koko, Iropo, Alaari, Tube, Ilashe, Ifonyintedo, Madoga, Ijofin and Tongeji in the town of Ipokia at 6°32′00″N 2°51′00″E.

It has an area of 629 km² and a population of 150,426 at the 2006 census. It the capital of Ipokia Local Government. The current traditional Head (King) is the HRM Oba Raufu Oladeinde Adetunji Adeole (JP), the Onipokia of Ipokia.

Ilaro is a town in Ogun State, Nigeria.
Ilaro is the headquarters of the Yewa South Local government, now known as YEWALAND which replaced the Egbado division of the former Western State, and later became a part of Ogun State of Nigeria, West Africa till this day. Ilaro town is about 50 km from Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, and about 100 km from Ikeja, the capital city of Lagos State. Other neighbouring towns to Ilaro, headquarter of Yewaland include, Ajilete, Oke-Odan Owode, Ibese, Oja Odan, Pahayi, Idogo-Ipaja, Papa-Alanto, and Imasayi.
